Estradiol: Estradiol is the primary estrogen in the body. This blood test detects low or high levels of estradiol typically observed in men, prepubertal girls, and postmenopausal women. Can be used to determine the need for and monitor certain hormone replacement therapies.

Progesterone: Progesterone levels establish ovarian functioning;is useful in determining estrogen dominace, confirm basal body temperature measurements for the occurrence of ovulation; obtain an indication of the day of ovulation; evaluate the functional state of the corpus luteum in infertility patients;

Must be collected day 21 of menstrual cycle. Day 1 is when menses began.

Testosterone: The testosterone blood test measures the total amount of testosterone in blood. Helpful in the diagnosis of hypogonadism, hypopituitarism, Klinefelter syndrome, and impotence (low values) in males, and hirsutism, anovulation, amenorrhea, and virilization in females, due to Stein-Leventhal syndrome, masculinizing tumors of ovary (eg, Sertoli-Leydig cell tumor), tumors of the adrenal cortices, and congenital adrenal hyperplasia (high values).

DHEA: Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) is a steroid which is produced by both the adrenal cortex and testis.3 The levels of this steroid increase before the onset of puberty (adrenarche), and decrease significantly with age.4 DHEA and DHEA-S are the major precursors of 17-ketosteroids.
